Outplay plays short videos that people send you (Instagram Reels, TikTok, Facebook Reels, YouTube Shorts) with proper controls. It has no account, no feed and no servers of its own. The Google Play version shows one ad on the end screen, which a one-time purchase removes.
Outplay itself collects nothing. It does not collect, store on a server, share or sell any personal data, and it has no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting. There are two things to know. The video comes from the platform’s own embedded player (see Network traffic), and that player can collect data of its own. And the Google Play version shows an ad (see Ads), served by Google, which collects data as described there.
Your settings (for example, whether videos play straight away or start with the sound on), a few small counters (how many videos you have finished and on how many days, which decide when the ad first appears and when to suggest a rating) and, if you buy it, a flag that ads are removed. These are kept in the app’s own local storage on your device. They are never sent anywhere, and uninstalling the app removes them.
Outplay’s own code makes no requests of its own, and it has no servers. The only traffic is the video platform’s own player loading, as it would in a browser. For Instagram, TikTok and Facebook that is the platform’s embed page. For YouTube it is YouTube’s player and its player script, loaded into a small page inside Outplay. The player is run by the platform (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or YouTube), not by Outplay. Loading it sends the platform your IP address and device details such as browser version, and the platform may also set cookies or collect other data under its own privacy policy. Outplay does not receive, control or see any of that. If you would rather not load a platform’s page, don’t open its links in Outplay. Outplay does not log in for you and never sees your account details.
This applies to the Google Play version only. The web extension and any other builds show no ads and have no purchase.
After a video ends, the Google Play version shows one ad on the end screen. The first seven videos you finish show none. It is never shown before or during a video.
Removing the ad is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play. Outplay does not see your payment details. It asks Google Play whether the purchase has been made and keeps only an “ads removed” flag on your device. Sharing a video or rating Outplay sends nothing to Outplay either: the share sheet or the store page opens on your device, and what happens next is between you and the app or store you chose.
Outplay uses YouTube API Services (the YouTube IFrame Player API) to play YouTube videos. By playing a YouTube video in Outplay you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. YouTube’s player may store or read cookies or similar technology on your device, and may show content or ads served by Google; Outplay does not control this. What it collects is described in the Google Privacy Policy. Outplay itself does not access, collect or store any information from YouTube.
If you tap a rating or share link, it opens in your browser or store app. That is your action, and the page you land on is covered by its own policy.
Outplay does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children. It is not aimed at children, and its ads are not child-directed.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
